Great to meet you!

Octavio’s primary goal as a Psychotherapist is to assist clients in a supportive and collaborative manner in enhancing their ability to function more successfully at home, school, work, and within social environments in the context of their presented behaviorally based problems or emotional condition with the objective of moving rapidly from assessment of the client’s presenting problem to formulating and implementing an appropriate treatment plan that addresses the client’s needs and goals. He has over 39 years of clinical experience as a New York State License Clinical Social Work and have worked with vast client populations.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is his preferred form of psychological treatment, which focuses on the client’s presented faulty or unhelpful ways of thinking and the client’s learned patterns of unhelpful behavior with the aim of helping clients change their thinking patterns. This helps clients learn to recognize their distortions in thinking that are creating problems and evaluate them considering reality. Clients gain a better understanding of their motivations and the motivation of others. Learning to use problem-solving skills to cope with their presented difficult situations helps the client develop a greater sense of confidence in one’s own abilities. Moreover, when warranted to help clients learn to face their fears instead of avoiding them, he uses role play exercises to help clients prepare for potentially problematic interactions with others and help clients learn to calm their minds and relax their bodies.

Play Therapy is another preferred form of psychotherapy Octavio utilizes in practice when working with children presenting difficulties with expressing themselves or emotions.

Great to meet you!

Robert is an Artist and a Creative Arts Therapist — as well as Associate Clinic Director of State Street Healing. He has always had a desire to help people through creativity. In the years since he discovered Art Therapy as a student, Robert has used this process to gain deeper understanding into his work and process. In his professional capacity of over thirty years, Robert has learned how to use this creative process to motivate, inspire, help initiate ideas, and provide art therapy to children, adults, and families. He has continued to provide supervisions to graduate level students to help them define their idea of what Art Therapy is and as a professional, whether an Art Therapist or Social Worker, helps them develop their own sense of professional identity.

As an educator through the MPS Art Therapy Program at the School of Visual Arts, Robert seeks to extend the classroom environment beyond that space encouraging individuals to take every moment within the process, no matter how challenging, to learn, grow, and apply that understanding in an informed manner. He focuses on how to conceptualize new solutions and directions to pursue using the creative process. He has used the creative process to help individuals establish a foundation where the art introduced creates a lattice that helps them identify, explore, and resolve issues they have.
